| Anson Hunter, alternative Egyptologist, surveyed the room. A sweep of his eyes told him that they had surrounded the dinner guests and were guarding the doorways, square-shouldered men and snake-slender women, covered in gold and wearing the heads of ancient Egypt's divinities. Who were they? Extremists? Criminals? There was at least a dozen that he could see. Jackal-head, dressed as Anubis, God of the Funeral Wrappings, the god who led the dead into the Hall of Judgement, spoke to the frozen assembly of Egyptologists in a harsh voice. "Do you know what is happening here? Could it be that the gods of Egypt have finally risen against Egyptology?" He gave a laugh that thundered inside the mask. "Which of you thinks this would not be justified? None, I see. We have on this boat, the greatest assembly of Egyptologists in the world. What a blow to the world's obsession with Egypt's past if you should all perish. What a blow, if you, the men and women who feed the ancient Egypt industry, should be lost. We could have destroyed this boat already, but we have a more entertaining idea. Since this is your gala night, we shall play a party game - a game where we shall play the role of judges." What is this? Anson thought. Some kind of bizarre intervention designed to correct the failings of ancient Egyptian archaeology?
