The Truth of MYTH in fiction – “powerful truth” that works at a deeper level.
Much of my Egypt-based fiction gives a modern spin to ancient myths.
C.S. Lewis expressed it clearly, believing that myths, or stories that explain the beliefs and values of a culture, contain powerful truth. He argued that myths, particularly those from Christianity, are not simply stories or legends, but rather contain elements of spiritual truth that can be understood on a deeper level. In his book "The Problem of Pain," Lewis wrote that "the story of Christ is simply a true myth: a myth working on us in the same way as the others, but with this tremendous difference that it really happened." He also wrote in "Mere Christianity" that "I have been reading poems, romances, vision literature, legends, myths all my life. I know what they are like. I know that not one of them is like this [the Christian story]."
