The “MADNESS OF METRICS” and BIG NUMBERS in Your Scales of Success.
Writers in particular are bedeviled by the scales of sales - “best-sellerdom”, numbers of ‘social followers’ rather than on the mark they make on the kind of reader they want to reach.
Yet likes, visits, reposts, sales are merely volume, not value.
Nobody remembers the money in the end.
If Metrics Mattered Most…
Billy Graham’s televised, mega crusade stadium events were more important than the sermons Jesus made on the dusty roads of Judea and Galilee.
(I suspect God doesn’t give a toss about numbers!)
If Metrics Mattered Most, McDonalds would be more important than your special favourite restaurant.
Billionaires would be more admirable than nurses, doctors, teachers, philosophers, artists.
Dan Brown would be more important than Ernest Hemingway… and so it goes.
There is a narrow gate that matters more, where only the few will enter.
