"WRITING ON THE ROAD Time Travel Blogs of An Ancient Egypt and Mystery Writer:
Finding inspiration in the void of outback Australia
“We are all time travellers”.
Some of us go further back than others.
Some of us will travel further into the future.
But few of us travel across time zones as far apart as pharaonic ancient Egypt, old Africa, and outback Australia on a fifteen-year journey of dreaming and fiction writing on the road.
That’s exactly what I have done.
45+ books written on the road… that’s roughly one book every four and a half thousand or so kilometres. Or approximately one new book every 7 months.
And that doesn’t include dozens of stories shelved, unpublished or unfinished – writing roadkill littering the side of the highway of my literary journey like the sad, grey mounds of dead kangaroos.
Exhaustive writing? Or exhausting?
Not if you suffer from a time-travelling mind that constantly skips from one age to another.
My computer laptop’s Word programme doesn’t come with a cursor on the screen for the insertion of texts.
Instead, it has a curser.
I am cursed with an unreasonable and lifelong ache for the ancient, to seek out ultimate mystery… in ancient Egypt, mythology, archaeology, comparative religion and in mysterious landscapes.
Most people think they want more answers, but I am on a quest for more mystery.
I find it in ancient Egypt, in mythology and religion, in the heart of Africa, and in the Australian outback.
And if nothing else, this journey of ‘mystery writing on the road’ proves that it’s possible to write books anywhere.
The Biblical writer of Ecclesiastes warned us.
‘There is no end to the writing of books.'
