A black jackal-dog, Anubis, Egyptian god of
mummification, his teeth bared in the muzzle of his mask, waved a handgun to
hurry the attackers on. A bird-headed Thoth, god of wisdom and magic, beak
curved like a long surgical hook, came close behind, toting a machine gun. On
his heels ran a Horus falcon, a ram-headed Amun with horns that spiralled like
galaxies, and a reptile-headed Sobek with powerful crocodile jaws. More animal
headed demons, bristling with weapons, ran after them.
The female divinities came next. Lights from
the boat fell on the slender, rippling forms of Isis, Nephthys and Maat.
Covered in a skin of gold, the flesh of the gods, they burnt like the sun...
