Conspiracies and hidden dangers

“I’ve detected interest about the Seshat Source here in America too,” Anson said.

“Hardly surprising. America wants what the Russians want – all the secret knowledge and technology of the ancient world in one place. The Cold War competition hasn’t entirely melted away, it’s merely been set on slow defrost. But what do you want from this quest, Anson? You seem to believe that your god is against hermetic illumination and forbidden powers, so why have you spent your life trying to unearth the dangerous secrets of ancient Egypt? And why chase after this Source? Are you the equivalent of a fire fighter who also happens to be a firebug?”

The remark was perceptive and it struck home.

“A sore point. Maybe I’ve decided it’s time I gave the world something back, something worthwhile. Knowledge.”

Maybe it was also an attempt to try to climb out of the darkness of depression, he thought.  His darker view of the world was starting to leak into his all of areas of his life, his writing, his Egyptology blogs, even into his love of ancient Egypt.
“Yet you would know better than anyone that this Source would also contain texts of unthinkable power.”
“I know the dangers. I’ve resisted unseen forces in the past. But I’m thinking that the good might have to come with the bad. The priceless history, architecture, knowledge, skills and wisdom in such a sanctuary must outweigh the dangers. It’s not my job to be Egyptology’s censor.”
