Quintessential journey to the tomb - scene from ancient Egypt...
Excerpt from AMULET, EYE OF GOD
..."a painted scene of a journey to the tomb, perhaps the most iconic template of death and hope of an afterlife in all of ancient Egyptian art. A line of servants marched in unison, bearing grave goods, jars of wine, a bed with headrest, a chair, a fan, a pair of sandals, ornamental caskets that stored clothing and other personal items of the tomb owner, luxuries that the tomb owner hoped to enjoy in the next life.
The scene was poignant, yet mechanical. The regimented steps of the funeral procession made me think of humankind’s lock-step march to the grave."
