Did the news of Egypt trying to restore a pyramid CLASH with "the pleasure of ruins"?
The pleasure of ruins and the frisson of 'ancientness' is why my series of Egypt-inspired novels of archaeology and mystery are mostly set in the modern day and I rarely attempt true historical fiction.
I love to dwell most of all on the sensation of 'ancientness' itself, on experiencing ancientness – brushing up against its cobwebs, descending its worn steps, being in its ruined and compelling presence, the past refracted through, and impacting on lives today.
I want the patina of the ancient past... rubbing off on modern characters’ skins today.
It's ANCIENT Egypt we want.
And if you want it too you may find it in my series of Egypt novels. "Ancient Egypt is one of the characters and the author Roy Lester Pond doesn't stint in bringing it to life," a critic wrote.
Roy Lester Pond is on Amazon.
